Hello Friends of The One By One Project,

We are reaching out with a plea for help. We are less than 20% of our way to our fundraising goal. Because we rely entirely on donations to support our community, we are reaching out again to ask you to help us urgently raise funds to help our neighbors.

If you would like a reminder of how much your donation makes an impact, read on for our hopeful story from the front lines. We originally shared this story in our spring newsletter. Today, we are thrilled to share an exciting update for Sal.* We cannot help achieve successes such as these without your help.

Please consider donating to our Summer Fundraiser to help us meet the ever-growing demand for support in Greater Boston.

100% of donated funds are passed back into Greater Boston.  No donor funds are used for administrative expenses.

A Feel-Good Story From the Front Lines

When our partner Alexander Twilight Academy reached out to us about an urgent need for one of their students, there were only two days left to save an extraordinary opportunity.

Sal* had earned an invitation to a highly selective boarding school’s fly-in program.  It was a visit designed to help talented BIPOC students explore independent schools and imagine new possibilities for their future. His mother, Fara*, a devoted single mom raising four children, had already said yes. The school had promised transportation for families without access to a car, including rentals for those within driving distance.

Then came the call: the funding was gone. No rental car. No way to get there.

ATA reached out to us, hoping there might still be a path forward. We quickly learned that only the driver could rent the vehicle, so we met Fara at a Boston rental agency, put the keys in her hand, and wished her safe travels.

They made the trip. Sal shined.

Today, Sal is a rising senior at that same school on a full scholarship, finishing near the top of his class and in the running for valedictorian.

Update:

The well-earned good news keeps coming for Sal. This summer, he earned a spot in Yale University's highly regarded MacLeish Scholars Program. Over the next few weeks, he'll immerse himself in college-level coursework and research, culminating in a 60-page paper of his own. As he heads into his senior year of high school, opportunities like this are opening doors and building momentum toward his college dreams.

A $200 rental car bill.  A lifetime of impact.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity.

In Partnership and With Gratitude,

Pam and Steve
