Hello Friends,
Writing to our supporters and partners is a highlight for us. This fall, reaching out feels a little different. We recognize that the news out there is tough for the community we support. So, in the spirit of being a part of the solutions, please take a minute to learn more about what The One By One Project is doing to make our corner of the world a bit more hopeful.
The requests for help we receive every day are not about luxuries or “extras.” They’re about the essentials- food on the table, a roof overhead, keeping the lights on, and getting to work. Demand for our support is at an all-time high.
This group has stepped up in so many ways. The numbers below are the result of our incredible community working together to support one another. It's been a game-changer.
2025 - The One By One Project in Action
2025 has already been a record-setting year (with two months left to go!).
Check out some of our top stats:

1,458 Bills Paid
From 2021 through October 2025, The One By One Project has paid 1,458 urgent bills to help families across Greater Boston stay on track and avoid a larger crisis.
Our Numbers Tell Our Story:
Since 2021, we have seen a sharp rise in requests for essentials. Demand for children’s clothing and supplies is up 440%. Simultaneously, food insecurity has increased tenfold and is predicted to spike exponentially as SNAP benefits are cut or reduced in the coming months. Housing requests have nearly doubled since we started our work.

Spotlight:
ONE Story from the Front Lines
We recently received a request from a partner who shared Annie’s* story.
Annie works six days a week. She holds down two jobs, attends school, and cares for her college-aged son and daughter. Annie does all she can to manage her budget.
After heavy rain, her roof began to leak. Out of necessity, she paid for the roof repairs. It couldn’t wait.
One unexpected bill unraveled Annie’s budget, leaving no money for groceries.
Within hours of receiving our partner’s request for food support, The One By One Project gave Annie a grocery gift card to cover her food expenses. It wasn’t our largest grant, but it was critical to helping Annie and her family stay on track.
Many are surprised to learn that The One By One Project’s average request is only around $600. Small dollars. Big Impact.
Before we go...
We know that this work only happens because of all of you. Every time we pay the rent, fix a car, or fill a fridge, we are reminded that change does not always come from the big moments. It comes from showing up for one another, again and again.
It’s been a challenging year, but also a hopeful one. We are proud to be together in this work. Thank you for being a part of our community of partners and supporters. Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the impending SNAP crisis.
